Urban Photoessay: #11

Picture shot in the streets of the Mexican coastal town Puerto Progreso. Which one do you prefer? Black/White or colored version?

  1. I usually love black and white photos, they make me nostalgic (probably because old photographs were B&W) and think about the lives these people could have lived, but in this case it’s exact opposite. In my opinion the coloured version tells the story better. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I think the preceding comments are proof that there is no such thing as a “right” opinion โ€” because it’s based on personal preference. ๐Ÿ™‚ I like your image either way, but I’m drawn to the black and white because it emphasizes the geometric shapes and composition. In the color version it’s the color itself that seems to be the main story, but it’s a bit distracting to me because the white balance seems to be skewed toward magenta (if you look at the backs of the chairs and the ground you’ll see they are the same shade as the wall). A slightly more balanced color profile that emphasized the difference between the ground and the chairs and the walls would really make your image “pop,” in my humble opinion. But again … great image! You’ve captured a really intriguing moment here. Cheers to you!
