Setúbal is a busy port town, 50km south of Lisbon and a place full of contrasts. For many Portuguese, Setúbal, the fourth largest city in Portugal, is considered as the dormitory of Lisbon, but I have experienced that Setúbal is really much more than that. On the one hand you have the authentic raw industrial character of the city, on the other hand you have the beautiful world famous postcard-like idyllic beaches (Troia Peninsula and Praia do Creiro) with turquoise water and even more natural beauty in the nearby Parque Natural da Arrábida. Setúbal is also a place where the foodies will find their liking, Choco Frito (fried cuttlefish) is by far the most popular local speciality. All ingredients for a perfect day trip from Lisbon (direct connection by train), or just do as I do: just book 2 nights in Setúbal and be surprised by the authentic beauty of the city. Setúbal really won’t disappoint you.

  1. I particularly like the ones where there are loose electrical cables dangling above the doors — so different from Germany!

    1. Thats the nice thing of traveling… seeing different things. Thanks for passing by and leave a comment, appreciate it:). Gr Stef

  2. These are great doors. I enjoy seeing the slope of the street and the progression in three doors as the step-up gradually increases. IT reminds me of where I grew up (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) which is also very hilly.

  3. Beautiful images again! Your featured one reminds of a photo I took in Croatia, in Motovun. And I really love the first bonus picture, as we can feel the pulse and see the row of beautiful houses in the back. I believe you that I would love this place.

    1. Thank you Manja. This picture was taken in a very vibrant neighborhood, colorful houses, live music and such a relaxing atmosphere. Have a nice weekend, Gr Stef
